Featuring a 30-Day Painting Challenge

with Cows!

The Art of Bovine

“While recovering from foot surgery and not being able to do much other than ice and elevate my foot for 6 weeks, I had a lot of time to contemplate my art journey. I felt stagnant, depressed, and longing for a project that would get me back into the flow of life and creativity. Because 30-day art challenges are popular with artists in January to start the year off right, I considered it as an option. However I couldn’t paint outdoors as the weather is too cold, plus my foot would not be up to the challenge. Then I considered setting up a still life series, but the idea didn’t excite me. So I asked myself what do I know which creates a spark when I think about it? Cows! We live on a ranch with a cow-calf operation, which means we raise calves every spring. My nickname is the Bovine Midwife, as I am in the barn while the calves are birthing to ensure a smooth delivery. When this thought came to me, I said BINGO! This is perfect, I will go through my hundreds of photographs and pick out some contenders for the 30-day challenge. With that thought, I spent the day reviewing and editing reference material for paintings which is the culmination of this photo book.”

Terri Meyer portrayed 30 cows in 30 days from her ranch in Ashland, Ohio, painting their likeness and their stories.  Each painting was recorded while being painted and turned into a one-minute time-lapsed “short” video for YouTube, so people interested in the process of painting could see the series of steps from start to finish. The Art of Bovine is a glimpse into the intimate life of the artist interacting with the cattle. Check out my newly released book "The Art of Bovine" on Amazon.com!

Because I enjoyed the cow painting challenge, I decided to continue creating paintings on a weekly basis until the end of the year. Keep checking back as I add more cow paintings!
